THE SUSHI TOUR

Portland Sushi Tour

The AFK Portland Sushi Tour is a small-group evening walking food tour built around rare, seasonal, and high-quality fish sourced from the Pacific Ocean.

Because Portland is so close to the coast, local sushi chefs have access to a wide variety of fish that many inland cities simply don’t get. This means the experience is constantly changing — with rotating selections based on what’s freshest, most interesting, and most unique each week.

This tour follows the Japanese tradition of omakase, which means “I’ll leave it to you.” Instead of ordering from a menu, you’ll trust the chefs — and our guides — to curate a progression of dishes that highlight the best fish and techniques available that night.

The experience takes place over 2–3 hours and covers about one mile of easy walking, with multiple sushi stops along the route.

What to Expect

On the Portland Sushi Tour, you’ll:

  • Visit multiple sushi restaurants

  • Enjoy a chef-curated omakase-style experience

  • Taste rare and seasonal fish varieties

  • Experience rotating menus that change regularly

  • Learn about fish sourcing, sustainability, and preparation

  • Walk an easy route through real neighborhoods

As you eat, our knowledgeable guides explain each fish and dish, giving you a deeper understanding of:

  • What makes each fish rare or seasonal

  • Where the fish comes from

  • How the fish is cut

  • Which part of the fish you’re eating and how that affects texture and flavor

You won’t just taste great sushi — you’ll learn why one cut melts, another is firm, and another is rich, and how sushi chefs choose specific sections of each fish for different styles.

Our guides are food-focused, approachable, and genuinely passionate about sushi — more like a local friend introducing you to hidden gems than a traditional tour guide. They also share curated recommendations for restaurants, bars, and things to do after the tour.

Why This Tour Is Different

Most sushi experiences are built around the same few types of fish.

This tour is different.

Because of Portland’s location near the Pacific and strong relationships with local chefs and suppliers, you’ll often experience fish that are:

  • Hard to find elsewhere

  • Seasonal and limited

  • Sourced fresh, not frozen

  • Prepared using traditional and modern techniques

And because the selections change constantly, no two tours are ever exactly the same.
